Thursday & Friday May 5 & 6, 2016 – Lake Mead RV Village near Las Vegas NV

It was a long drive from Bakersfield, 5-1/2 hours. It is windy and warm, I’m surrounded by Germans, there are seven RVs of them. A group of 6 couples, and one who didn’t come with them. Interesting and friendly folks.

Went to the dam to take the tour, but there was a 2-hour wait for the full tour, so I opted for the power house tour, but it was fine. Didn’t get to visit the tunnels or the interior of the dam itself.

Had lunch at Boulder City Brew Pub after. A nice lunch with passable brewpub beer.

When I visited Hoover Dam as a child, all the highway traffic was routed across the dam itself. I remember waiting in traffic, in the hot sun, for a long time before we could park to take the tour. These days the highway bypasses the dam on a spectacular high arch bridge just downstream from the dam.
