Saturday May 14, 2016 – Durango CO

I spent most of the day doing laundry, making train reservations, and having lunch in one of the local brewpubs. The BREW Pub and Kitchen is quite nice. The brewing system is an old German system with Hot Liquor/Kettle, and Lauter tuns. The original intention was that the mash would be conducted in the kettle, pumped to the Lauter tun with wort running down into the kettle. The brewer there mashes in the lauter tun and just lauters from there.

They had a number of nice beers on tap, and I tasted several as I talked to the brewmaster after eating lunch. They had the Duchess du Burgoyne Flemish Red Ale on tap, a rare find not to be passed up so I canceled my order for the house’s Pale Ale and changed to a glass of the Duchess. Got to take advantage when you find it ;-)
