Tuesday May 17, 2016 – Pueblo CO

As I drove here from Durango, the weather presented me with rain, hail, snow, and a dust storm. It did not present me with sunny skies. The snow wasn’t sticking to the ground, or even the windshield as I crossed the continental divide at Wolf Creek Pass, 10, 900 ft. but driving in a snow storm at 10,000 feet in the Rockies, towing a trailer was still disconcerting.

The dust storm was visible from a long way off along the interstate. The advanced notice gave me time to roll up the windows, close the vents, and turn off the truck heater. Again, disconcerting, but not as bad as some rain storms I’ve driven through.

The temperature was in the high 40s when I arrived at my overnight stop in Pueblo, and I figured that the night time temps were not going to be comfortable. So I decided to stay in a motel. I found the Baymont Inn and checked in. After a luxurious shower, I headed downtown to Shamrock Brewing Co. a rowdy Irish pub that brews their own beer. I had an Irish Red, which was quite nice. I had another during the meatloaf dinner, followed by a Jamesons Cask Special and a Guiness. The three guys next to me at the bar are Coast Guard officers. They are all HazMat officers here for training on railcar spills. I had a nice time talking to them. Back to my hotel room where I watched the final period of a hockey game and went to bed.
