Thursday May 12, 2016 – Lake Powell

Well, I didn’t go to Antelope Canyon. I didn’t know a reservation was required until I inquired at the first two tour agencies on the street. Had I gone to the third, I would have been able to go, according to my new friends JM and Jennifer. ;-( Oh well, I need to be more persevering.

I went back into town to do laundry and couldn’t find a parking space at the only laundromat in town ;-( Well, Durango is a larger town than Page’s 4000 people, I’ll do laundry there, and make reservations for the damned train ride! I did have a nice lunch at the Texas BBQ place. Good pulled pork, bland sauce, nice peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Best part of the day.

At sunset I went out to one of the overlooks to shoot the hills and Tower Butte at sunset.

A much better view than from atop the picnic table in my campsite last night.

I’ve been on the road for two weeks now, half way into the adventure. No crises, a few difficulties and disappointments. But overall, I’m thrilled with the trip. If I were to come this way again, I’d stay in Kanab for Zion, Bryce, and Capitol Reef, then move closer to Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon is just too far from here for a day trip.
