Camping Close to Home

I wanted to get the teardrop out and go camping as a warm up for a longer trip later this summer, so when a friend suggested a 3-day camping trip at Indian Mary County Park, I agreed.
Indian Mary park is on the bank of the Rogue River about 40 minutes from home, so I figured that if I forgot anything critical, I could run home to get it.

I hadn’t had the teardrop out since the DAM Gathering in early May, and realized that much of the “stuff” I normally keep in the trailer had been moved to the Lo-Liner, but hadn’t been returned to the teardrop. Now I have a list of supplies and provisions that I have to add to the trailer before the next trip.

I also discovered that a few bits and pieces have been lost, and others need replacement due to age and wear. I also need to clean up a couple of things that have become rusty during the year-long hiatus from use.

Indian Mary park is very beautiful with several sites that are snuggled up under the trees, and so are shaded a majority of the day. We chose two such campsites for our party of three guys, three cars, and two trailers. Our campsite warmed up quickly in the morning and remained cool throughout the afternoons.

One of my friends brought his river raft and we floated through Hellgate Canyon on a day when few boats and rafts shared the river with us. In spite of my trepidations about being on/in the water, I enjoyed the raft trip enormously and want to get out on the river again soon. Then on Wednesday, we drove up to Chrome Ridge, named for the mineral not the browser ;-) The mountains are extremely rugged, and I can’t imagine how the original miners managed to build roads to get the ore off the mountain to be smelted. From the ridge, you can see all the way to California on a clear day. Wednesday wasn’t clear enough for that but we could see a long ways.

The teardrop will go in the shop for a few days to fix up and clean up some items before my summer trip, then the Lo-Liner will take its place for more serious refurbishment work.

Stay tuned.
