Getting to Yellowstone National Park

It took a long time to get here today. Google Maps seriously underestimated the drive time when I was planning and it took some doing to keep Mother from sending me the longest route. All in, from leaving the campground in Great Falls to the campground office here was 8 hours on the road. Much too long. I stopped for lunch along side the road in some town on the way, so I lost only a total of half an hour between lunch and gas.

Yellowstone is everything I expected. Beautiful, crowded, noisy, full of stupid tourists and maniac children, and did I say beautiful? It’s also big. My campground is more than half way across the park from where I entered. That added 2 driving hours to the day. And I assumed I’d go straight south through Grand Teton NP on my way out of here, but the mountain passes on that route are 10,000+ feet high, and I’m not in for that. So maybe I’ll see Cody WY on my way home. I’ll have to see where that takes me. I need to get the sleeping bag down again, there’s still snow on the ground under the trees and leftovers from the snowplow drifts, and it’ll be cold in here tonight. It’s already cooling off. It’s 9:30 already. I need to put on another layer and get a drink.

The Fishing Bridge crosses the Yellowstone River just below the outflow from Yellowstone Lake. The water level is at almost record highs.

Yes the paint is wet, so are the steps that were painted ;-)
