Treasure Island Meet & Greet

On Oct. 27th and 28th, my teardrop trailer and I attended the first annual Treasure Island Meet & Greet. Dave (SuperShady1) organized the event on the TnTTT.com forum and arranged with the Treasure Island Flea market for our participation. Basically in exchange for us (8 teardrop trailers and owners) showing and talking about our trailers to TI Flea visitors, we had the privilege of camping on the lawn below the 40 foot high statue “Bliss Dance.”

Located on a lawn area along Avenue of the Palms on the western edge of Treasure Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay, the statue was created by sculptor Marco Cochrane in 2009.

This photo was taken late Sunday after all but Dave and I had left. The statue completely dominates the space.

Steve Smith from Berkeley and Ted from Morgan Hill brought Benroy trailers made only months apart in 1955.  Steve has just begun restoration of his (far left) while Ted is almost complete with his restoration (middle). My 1948 teardrop was the oldest of the three classics that participated.

New trailers were well represented by Dave & Dawn’s trailer and Yiwen’s trailer, both 2012 models from the same So. Cal. maker.

Homebuilts were well represented also, with Dan & Mindy’s 5-wide, Steve Vaz’s “La Tortuga,” and Kim’s unfinished trailer.

Dave organized a “People’s Choice” competition, encouraging the public to vote for their favorite trailer. La Tortuga won a really cool engraved plaque. But more amazing was the fact that over 160 people too the time to vote!

Saturday night found us around our dual Camp Chef propane-powered fire rings (no campfires allowed, but propane is OK), listening to the 3rd game of the World Series and enjoying spectacular views of San Francisco across the bay and of the moon over Bliss Dance.
