Monday May 9, 2016 Bryce Canyon

Today I drove to Bryce Canyon National Park, about 2-1/2 hours each way. It was well worth the drive. I had lunch in the Lodge, a nice Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich and a local beer. After lunch, I drove all the way up to the far end of the road, stopping at many of the overlooks and pull outs along the way.

Bryce is interesting in that the erosion-caused features are almost exclusively on one side of the ridge, and as you drive up it looks like innocent desert mountains and then suddenly there are Bryce’s signature delicate spires and hoodoos with their windows and spires.

After a long drive back to camp, I stopped briefly before going into Park AZ for dinner at the Dam Brew Pub. They don’t make their own beer, they have it contract brewed at Four Peaks in Tempe.

Sitting at the bar, I met a woman who drives a shuttle bus for the Antelope Valley Slot Canyon tours. I asked her about it, and she gave me the skinny and showed me some pix she took with her phone. I hope I do as well with my camera. She said Thursday was looking good for good light beam conditions. So I’ll go to Zion Tuesday, Grand Canyon ? Wed and do the Slot Canyon tour on Thurs.
