Solar success!

The 80-watt solar panel puts out enough power, even when partially shaded to replace my typical nightly use in just a few hours!

I used the solar panel for the first time at Brian’s Farm Gathering, where I was parked in full sun. A couple of moves of the panel kept it in full sun all day. But, my campsite in the Nelson City Park Campground was deep in the trees with complete shade all day, so I ran 75 feet of extension cord and plugged in the trailer.

At Farragut State Park, there was no option of plugging in, and my site was in partial shade all day. The sunny patches moved with the sun. But by moving the panel twice during the morning, I could keep it mostly in the sun most of the morning. This proved adequate to fully charge the battery in just a few hours.

Other than the over-heavy box I built to carry the panel, I rate the solar project as a complete success. The next project is to build a better box for it. It needs some protection when jammed in the back seat of the truck with chairs, tables, and coolers, but needs less than the 20 lb wooden box I built ;-(
