Waterton Lakes, More Rain

If there are mountains here, I can’t see them. The rain continues. The trailer was 40F when I woke this AM. Fortunately I have enough covers on the bed that I sleep warm. That would be difficult if I slept cold. It’s hard to get the trailer up to 50ºF. I put the toaster plate on the front burner of the stove and run that and it provides some small measure of heat. The up side is that I don’t need to buy ice as often ;-)

I’d like to get a weather forecast for Montana and Wyoming to see what I’m getting into after I leave here. But the ‘net connection is completely flakey. Sometimes I have a good connection, sometimes only the phone will connect, sometimes, nothing will connect. I think I’ll take the laptop to the Laundromat to see how that works.

Well, laundry got done, connection didn’t. Finished the laundry and went around the block to the Riverside Inn Lounge and Grille for a Bison Burger, several beers, and some World Cup. Chile eliminated Spain. The Spanish fans seemed distraught. Like it’s time to go home ;-(

The truck’s thermometer says it’s 38ºF outside, and I’m working on getting the inside temp above 45ºF with the toaster/heater. Now that my stuff and I are dry, it’s not such a big deal. But it’s disappointing to come here only to hang out indoors. Oh well.

New motto “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer!” Thanks to a young woman in the Lounge who had that, over a map, as the wallpaper on her laptop.

I’m trying to get a weather forecast for the rest of my trip, but the damned connection here drops out just often enough to cause every page to have a server time out. What a giant PITA.

Well, the weather forecast looks better as the week moves toward weekend. I’m mostly concerned about here to Great Falls MT on Friday. It looks like I’ll be driving out of this stuff and into warmer weather. Will be appreciated. I wouldn’t mind the trailer drying out some. I’m still going to go out east some to get out of the mountains. There is still snow at the higher altitudes, and I don’t feel any real need to cross a 10,000+ ft mountain pass.

I almost forgot, I saw a bear on the highway, just outside Revelstoke. I probably wasn’t more than 10 miles outside town, and there was a small? black bear crossing the highway in front of me, when I got there he stared at me and headed off into the brush. As I was leaving the campground in Banff to go to town, a van was stopped along side the road. They were looking a nice sized Elk, still with velvet on his antlers. No Bighorn Sheep yet, but there are some mountains to cross before Yellowstone.
