Drawers and Cupboard Doors Fixed

The upper and lower cupboard doors didn’t latch properly unless manually aligned. One had to be lifted, another had to be pushed down, one wouldn’t latch anyway.

Annoying but hardly earth shaking nor worth my investing much effort in. Mostly because I do not do well at things like relocating latches and catches so they mate smoothly the first time. I have even less success when I have to redo someone else’s work ;-(

So, while my woodworking brother was visiting from Arkansas this week, I asked him to look into my cabinet doors. He trimmed one door with a wood rasp and when that didn’t fix the problem, he undertook to relocate the fixed part of the latch.

It took him half an hour to remove and relocate all four latch parts. It would have taken me 2 or 3 hours. After he fixed the doors, he asked “what else needs fixing?” and I pointed him at the drawers that didn’t fit in their slots properly and didn’t have stops to keep them from coming all the way out.

A little poking and prodding of the drawers later and he asked “do you have some small pieces of wood?” A suitable board and a marginally adequate saber saw were procured. He made two drawer guide/stop pieces in a few minutes and had them mounted a couple of minutes later. Now my two drawers don’t pull all the way out and don’t wobble around as they slide out.

Just as he was asking “what else needs work?” my sister-in-law showed up and the question became “what’s for lunch?”

I’m very happy that my cupboard and drawers work properly now. My trailering experience will be much better thanks to my brother’s skills with wood ;-)
